The instructors at the Centre have a wide range of qualifications, expertise and experience

This includes eventing at national and international levels, work with competition horses, a knowledge of ‘Intelligent Horsemanship’, and a sympathetic understanding of the needs of the rider and their expectations.

The principal instructors at the Centre are:


  • Lizzel Winter

    Lizzel Instructor smallLizzel Winter F.BHS

    Lizzel, is one of the co-owners of Severnvale. She is a Fellow of the British Horse Society, and is currently responsible for the Rider and Coach Development programme for British Eventing. She has previously coached youth squads at the highest level, including GB’s Under-18s, who amassed 10 medals under her stewardship; as well as the Portuguese youth squads up to European Championship level.

     Lizzel is a British Eventing Master Coach, acts as an assessor, coach educator and external verifier for BE and the BHS; and has a broad experience in teaching exam students as well as all levels of competition riders. She is also the Director of the Elite Equine Academy at Hartpury College.

    She is a past winner of the coveted Pat Smallwood Trainers Award; and international event rider, having represented her country on several occasions. She has also competed at Badminton and ridden at Intr 1 and PSG in dressage; as well as competing at national championships.

  • Eric Winter

    Eric WinterEric Winter

    Eric is a co-owner of Severnvale. He started his career in show jumping, winning major classes at the Horse of the Year Show, Royal International and Hickstead. In 1986 he turned his attention to Eventing. He competed at Badminton & Burgley and has represented England at International Level II in Holland and France (where he rode on the team).

    Eric is a British Eventing accredited coach and is able to apply his wide range of experience to improve safety in the sport of Eventing, through the British Eventing Cross Country Safety Advisory Group. Additionally, Eric is an FEI International Course Designer and FEI Technical Delegate (TD), as well as an A-list Course Designer and Technical Advisor (TA) for British Eventing. Recently, Eric has been instrumental in delivering much of the training of Course Designers and TA's in the UK.

    He designs courses for advanced events on the international circuit, including Badminton, Blenheim, Longleat, Bicton, as well as Somerley Park, and the Belmont Horse Trials.

  • Debbie Wilding

    Debbie Wilding 3Debbie Wilding

    Debbie is a popular instructor who has a great way of building a rider’s confidence, while keeping her lessons enjoyable. She works with children and adults; from lead rein lessons through to improving the performance of both the horse and rider; and teaches private lessons during off peak times that involve lunge lessons and evening group lessons.  Currently she is qualified to BHS stage 2, but is training for her Level 3 in coaching.

    Debbie also helps Juliet with the running of the Pony Club activities and camps, as well as the Adult Camps.

    Debbie, and her competitive daughter Iesha, are valued members of the Severnvale team; with Debbie working to help Iesha pursue her dream to be a professional event rider.

  • Juliet Fowler

    Juliet is an established member of the Severnvale team.

    She has many years of experience with nervous adults and children. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Equine Science from Hartpury Collage as well as a preliminary certificate in Intelligent Horsemanship.

    Juliet is well known for her much loved and fantastic approach to children's coaching. She looks after the Pony Club activities at the Centre, and runs a wide range of activities, particularly in the school holidays; as well as camps for children during the school summer holiday.

  • Daniel Galleozzie

    Dan 1Daniel Galleozzie

    Daniel first rode at the age of 16 and quickly developed a passion for horses. He studied at Pembrokeshire Riding Centre, where he quickly progressed through his training, and found that he enjoyed teaching. After gained his BHS Stage Two, he then passed his Preliminary Teaching Test (PT).

    In 2012 he participated in the Association of British Riding Schools Young Instructor of the Year Award, where he was the runner-up. This was a big achievement for someone who only started riding at 16 years of age.

    Teaching is Dan’s biggest passion; but he also enjoys being involved with the starting process of young horses. Dan works closely with Debbie and Juliet to ensure that all the riders at Severnvale enjoy their lessons. 

  • Kat Raybould

    Kat Raybould InstKat Raybould BHSAI

    Kat is a competitive professional event rider based at Severnvale; where she and her devoted team specialise in training and working on the schooling and breaking of client's horses. She has a wealth of knowledge, including being the runner-up in the prestigious 2014/15 Mark Todd Bridging the Gap Training Series; and achieved her dream of riding at the Badminton Horse Trials in 2015. Even so, Kat is determined to work harder every season to develop her full potential, and to use her experience when working with client's horses.
