Safety Policy

Safety of persons using and/or visiting Severnvale Equestrian Centre.

  • Please be aware that Severnvale Equestrian Centre (SVEC), and all those who are connected with it, do all that is reasonably practicable to make sure that there is a healthy and safe environment for all persons at the Centre.

Notwithstanding this, all persons using, or visiting the Centre, do so at their own risk; and must remain aware at all times of the potential risk from live animals, which sometime behave unpredictably. They must also remain alert to the risk from vehicles and plant, such as cars, lorries and tractors, which move in and around the Centre.

  • The risk of an accident involving another vehicle, a person or an animal, in the vehicle parking area is high; because of the greater level of activity and also because visibility for drivers and pedestrians may be obstructed.

When driving at the Centre, do not allow yourself to be distracted, and drive slowly and carefully on the approach tracks and in the parking area; while keeping a watch for pedestrians and animals. Always be prepared to stop quickly! Please pay particular attention in the darkness of the early mornings and evenings, when visibility is reduced.

  •  Straw, hay, animal bedding and the timber buildings present a significant fire hazard. Therefore all persons at the Centre must do all that they can to prevent a fire from starting and know the evacuation procedures that must be followed.

  • For the safety of everyone, all Clients and visitors are required to follow reasonable instructions that may be given to them by the Centre’s Instructors, and all those who are connected with it. It is particular important that young people (less than 12 years of age) are supervised by an adult, as they are less likely to be aware of the risks around them.

  • It is the express condition of Severnvale Equestrian Centre that those riding there voluntarily accept the risks of injury or damage that is implicit in riding a horse. Where the rider is less than 18 years of age, his or her parents, or other adult accompanying them, must accept this condition on their behalf.

  • When mounted at the Centre a riding hat that complies with the PAS 015 standard must be worn with the chin strap securely fastened, and be fitted correctly. Additionally, footwear must be suitable riding boots with a heel, with the spurs the correct way up.
